North America Travel Guides

North America is built for big distances: road trips, huge cities, national parks, coastlines, deserts, mountains, food cultures, and border crossings that can feel like entering a completely different world.

🌎 Why North America Is So Special

North America may only include three countries on this page, but each of them is enormous in culture, geography, and travel variety. Canada, the United States, and Mexico could each fill years of travel on their own.

This is a region of scale. You can move from Arctic landscapes to tropical beaches, from megacities to empty highways, from desert towns to mountain lakes, and from some of the world's most expensive destinations to places where travel can still feel surprisingly affordable.

Best for Road trips, cities, nature, food, national parks
Travel style Flights, trains, buses, rental cars, long distances
Useful hubs New York, Toronto, Vancouver, Mexico City, Los Angeles

🧭 North America Travel Guides

I have travelled to all three countries in North America, but the individual country guide pages are still coming. This page will eventually collect the full North America archive with city notes, border stories, costs, transport details, photos, and personal impressions.

Get Travel Insurance for North America

North America is easy to travel, but medical care in the United States and Canada can be very expensive. Insurance is one of the first things I would check before a trip here.

For North America, I usually compare two different types of travel insurance: SafetyWing for longer, more flexible trips, and Heymondo for fixed-date holidays with clearer start and end dates.

SafetyWing

Best for longer North America trips, digital nomads, road trips, and flexible routes across multiple countries.

  • Good for open-ended travel
  • Useful if you do not know your exact return date
  • Works well for multi-country routes
  • Subscription-style coverage for long-term travelers
*Compare SafetyWing plans

Heymondo

Best for fixed-date vacations, family trips, city breaks, and trips where you want cancellation or tailored coverage.

  • Good for trips with fixed dates
  • Useful when you want cancellation options
  • Often strong for medical coverage limits
  • Flexible add-ons depending on the trip
*Get a Heymondo quote

The simple rule: if you are traveling around North America for weeks or months, check SafetyWing. If you are booking a specific North America trip with set dates, check Heymondo.

✈️ Practical Notes for North America Travel

North America is easy to underestimate because the countries are familiar to many travelers, but the scale is massive. Distances between places can be enormous, domestic travel can be expensive, and the best route often depends on whether you are prioritizing cities, nature, food, or road trips.

  • Plan around distance first, especially in Canada and the United States.
  • Mexico can feel much more varied than a beach-only itinerary suggests.
  • Budget for transport carefully, especially rental cars and domestic flights.
  • Remember that visa and ESTA requirements can differ strongly by nationality.
  • Check seasons carefully, from Canadian winters to hurricane season and desert heat.
